I grew up watching the Pearl. I was a 12-year-old kid in the Dome the night he hit the half-court shot against Boston College. I watched the Syracuse/Gtown battles he was in. I had the pleasure of meeting him once. I was picking up my tuxedo for my wedding, and he was in the shop picking up a tuxedo as well. Although I was in awe to meet a childhood hero, we talked briefly as men. I shared the Gospel with him and told him about the love of Jesus Christ. He was very respectful and listened intently. I was devastated to learn of his death, and I pray he had an opportunity to receive salvation before he passed. Now, I'm 52 years old - the same age he was when he died. This hits differently now all over again.
